General Info

Togo is a small country located in western Africa. The country has a population of 8,400,000 most of the citizens living south by the coast. Lomé the capital, is home to 2.2 million permanent residents and is located on the southwest corner of the country. Togo is a multiparty republic with only one legistlative house. Togo's main export is from agriculture, however, there is large phosphate reserves within the country.

Climate

Togo has a tropical climate with the driest location being its coastal region which only receives 35 inches of precipitation annually. However, northern regions of Togo receive much more rain such as Kpalimé which receives about 65 inches per year. The temperature in Lomé typically stays within the range of 74°F to 90°F year round with little exceptions.

Plants & Wildlife

The plant life in Togo varies drastically with the several different habitats such as the rainforest in the southeast, swamps on the coast, and grasslands in the north. Non-native plants such as coconut trees thrive on the coast of Togo as well as waterlettuce, which is invasive to the swamp regions of Togo. The wildlife of Togo also varies based off of the regions, animals like lions, hyenas, giraffes, and elephants all live in the grasslands. While crocodiles and hippopotamuses live more to the south along rivers.
